Paintings and Cumbria

It's early in the morning on Day four of my holiday and I thought I better catch up on what I've been doing the last few days.

On Wednesday I spent four hours wandering around the Nationl Gallery at Trafalgar Square. I don't know much about art, but I do know what I like, so I took notes on what paintings I likes as I walked around the 45-odd rooms. My feet were killing me afterwards!

My favourite pintings were definitely those by van Gough, in particular the Sunflower painting (one of 10 he did I believe). There is something so vibrant about his work, it leaps out at you. Of course, some of my liking may be influenced by last year's Doctor Who episode 'Vincent' - but of all the gret artists,k I could always recognise his work. One day I'd like to see the Starry Night he did. However, on this trip I saw I think it was 6 of his paintings?

I also enjoyed Monet's 'Irises', Botticlli's  'Venus and Mars', Bosschaert's 'A Still Life of Flowers in Wan-Li Vase' and George Stubbs' 'Whistlejacket' among others.

I bought my first charm of the trip at the Gallery gift shop - a stylised van Gough sunflower.

Yesterday I headed to Cumbria with HQ.

We has a brief stop in Lancaster to change trains. We had a drick in the most amazing little pub with low arched cobble stone lined ceilings. I will hve to take  photo on our way back or something. We lso walked past the local cstle, which until recently was used as a prison.

I now know why she's been raving about the view at Grange-over-sands since she moved here. Oh my...

So much green... can I take the green home please?
